WordPress will show you themes in search results. You need to hover your mouse over the theme and then click the install button.
Once you’ve installed your theme, you can customize it by clicking the Customize link in the Appearance menu. This will launch Theme Customizer where you can change your theme settings with a live preview of your website.
By default, WordPress does not have a drag-and-drop site builder, but you can use a WordPress page builder plugin such as SeedProd to update the font, and customize the style, color, and other items to match the needs of your website.
Without any code, You can even create a fully custom WordPress theme.
Remember, you don’t have to finalize all the theme settings right now. If you have some content on your website you will be able to customize it better.
Let’s see how to add content to your WordPress site.
Step 4. Add Content to Your Site
WordPress comes with two default content types of posts and pages. Posts are part of the blogging functionality and appear in reverse-chronological order (new items appear first).
You can create a separate page for your blog or news section to showcase your recent posts Alternatively, you can create a website without any blog section.
let’s add some content to your website.
You can start by adding a few pages in your WordPress site. Don’t worry if you don’t have enough content for these pages right now You can always edit and update them.
Go to Pages >> Add a new page in the WordPress admin area. This brings you to the page editor screen, which should look like this depending on your theme:
First, you need to provide a title for your page, let’s call this page ‘Home’.
After that, you can add content to the text editor below. You can add text, links, images, embed videos, audio, etc. After adding content to your page, you can click the publish button to make it live on your website.
You can repeat this process by adding more pages for different sections of your website. For example, a contact page, a contact page, and a blog page to display blog posts.
Now let’s add a few blog posts as well.
Go to Posts >> Add new to your WordPress admin area, where you’ll see a screen similar to the one you saw earlier when adding pages.
Step 5. Customizing and Tweaking Your Website
Now that you have created some content for your own website, you will be able to customize and put it all in a nice presentable shape for your users. Let’s start by setting up a static front page (also known as the homepage).
Setting up a Static Front Page
You should see the Settings »Reading page in your WordPress admin dashboard. Click the Static Frontpage under the ‘Frontpage display’ option and then select ‘Pages’ created earlier for your home and blog pages.
Be sure to click the ‘Save Changes’ button at the bottom of the page to save your changes. WordPress will now use the ‘Home’ page because the front page of your site and therefore the ‘Blog’ page to display your blog posts.
Change Site Title and Tagline
During the installation, you will be able to choose the title of your site. WordPress automatically adds a tagline to the title of your site that says ‘just another WordPress site’. You can change both your site title and tagline at any time by going to Settings »General Page.
The title of your site is going to be the name of your website like Growmek. The tagline is typically one line that describes your website.
You can also leave the tagline field blank if you want because WordPress SEO plugins like AIOSEO, Yoast SEO, and others will override it for better search engine optimization. Be sure to click the Save Changes button to save lots of your settings.
Set up Comments Settings
WordPress comes with a built-in comment system that lets your users comment on your posts. This is great for WordPress users, but it can also be noticed by spammers. To deal with this, you need to enable comment moderation on your website.
Go to the Settings »Discussion page and scroll down to the ‘Before a comment appears’ section. Check the box next to the ‘Comments must be approved manually’ option. Be sure to click the Save Changes button to save lots of your settings.
Create Navigation Menus
Navigation menus allow your users to browse different pages or sections of your website. WordPress comes with a powerful navigation menu system and uses this system to display your WordPress theme menus.
Let’s add a navigation menu to your website.
First, you need to look at the Appearance »menu page. Enter a name for your navigation menu and click the Create Menu button.
WordPress will now create menus on yours. But at this moment it will be empty. Next, select the pages you want to display in your menu, and then click the Add to Menu button.
You will notice that your selected pages fill in the blanks in your navigation menu. You can move these menu items up and down to rearrange their position on the menu.
Now you need to select a display location. These locations are defined by the WordPress theme. Typically, most WordPress themes have a preliminary menu that appears at the top of your website’s header. Finally, click the Save Menu button to save the menu to your navigation.
You can now visit your website to see the action menu. See our beginner’s guide on how to add navigation menus to WordPress for more detailed instructions.
